Need a favor

Hey Everyone!

I am sorry it has been so long since I have posted. I know I have been MIA the past several months, but things are good. I have just been trying to enjoy the summer and get ready for school.

Anyway, I need to ask you all for a favor. My favorite band in coming to Tempe in September and I was able to get tickets. They are allowing fans to vote for which of their five albums will be played. My pick is currently in second place. I am hoping for a little help to get my fave into the top spot.

So here's how it works. Just click on the picture below and and it will take you to the poll. You will then select the O next to The Walk and click vote.

You can vote once a day per internet web browser per computer. For example, if you have internet explorer and firefox you can vote from both once everyday. The polls are open to September 12th. Thanks Everyone!

Hello all! Sorry it has been a while since I have written. Not to much is going on. However, my mom and I did go see Les Misérables earlier this month. We were blown away! It was incredible! I loved wicked, but this was on a completely different level. It was the 25th anniversary so they updated it some and added extra effects. If you ever get the chance, go see it!

I was so excited to finally see the show. I have wanted to see it ever since my sophomore year of high school. We sang the song Own My Own and I was hooked. Since then I have gotten my hands on the soundtrack and the piano book. However, after seeing the show, the songs have so much more...power and meaning behind them.

I am enjoying having the summer off, but at the same time I am looking forward to the approaching semester. I am happy to report that the pool is FINALLY the perfect temperature. This cool weather is just odd this summer. What gives?

Schools out for summer!

Well, it is official. I am free for the summer. My grades are in and I very happy with what I have accomplished. It is nice to know that yes, I can still do this. I was afraid starting out, but this turned out to be the perfect class. I originally signed up for it because A) I needed a global credit and B) it was one of the more interesting late start classes available that would count for something. However, in the end I actually really enjoyed my class. I learned a lot. I always say the book choice can make or break the class. I have taken subjects that I loved, but hated the class because the book was so difficult to comprehend. I have also taken classes that I had no real interest in a found that I really enjoyed them because the book was easy to follow and good at explaining things. The class I took this past semester falls into the second category.

There was no final exam in my class. Instead we had a final project. We had to create a webpage about an environmental issue. I chose the deforestation of South America. If you interested in checking out what I did the link is: http://deforestationoftherainforest.blogspot.com/. I worked hard and am proud of the result. My teacher even asked to use it as an example for future classes. I guess that says something, no?

Another week, another weather change, and another headache…why? Anyway, I survived my crazy two week stretch of assignments. Yeah! The next two modules don’t look to bad, but I also need to find time to work on my final project in the mist of my regular assignments. Just one question, where has my brain gone?

I am still looking for someone to go pigeon/dove hunting. Any takers? That stupid bird is driving me insane! Oh well, that is life. How many months until fall?

Alright, you are all probably going to be laughing at me over this, but I do not care. It irritates me. What is this garbage about the triceratops not being real and is actually just a young version of another species? I know that science makes changes as new facts arise, but I think this is a little much. First they went from saying the T-rex was a fierce carnivore to saying that they were nothing but scavengers. Weirdoes! Make up you mind. The link below will take you to an article about the triceratops.

Okay, well now that I have ranted about something completely pointless, I need to try to get to my school work. Come on brain! Don’t fail me now!

Have a good week ya’ll!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter weekend all!

By some miracle, I am just about done with my two week marathon of school assignments. Thank goodness!!! I only have one assignment left
(probably the easiest out of all of them) and I still have until Sunday. However, it is my hopes to get it done today so I can just chill this weekend.

So by any chance does anyone feel like going pigeon hunting? Ever spring this stupid bird sits on the roof outside of my bedroom and hoots from 6am till 2pm. AHHH! You all know I love animals, but I want to kill this stupid bird. I did not miss him. It has been so bad this week with my headache and trying to get schoolwork done that I actually started wearing earplugs to block out the all the hooting. I love that spring is back, the flowers are blooming, it has warmed up, I am even happy to see the sparrows back. However, that pigeon can stay gone year round and I will be happy. Okay, enough wining. Sorry about that!

Well, I guess that is about it for now. Oh, I almost forgot! I have added pictures from the epilepsy walk to the picture page. Check it out! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Happy Easter!

"Now let the heavens be joyful,
Let earth her song begin:
Let the round world keep triumph,
And all that is therein;
Invisible and visible,
Their notes let all things blend,
For Christ the Lord is risen
Our joy that hath no end."

You know what you gotta do when life gets you down? Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.

Yes, Dory was my hero last week.  Her words kept me going. :o)

Last week was MISERABLE! I have a ton of stuff due this Sunday and I was sooo happy I was given two weeks to complete everything.  Well, a wicked migraine shot any hopes of being productive last week.  By Friday I was about ready to have a panic attack.  However, the terror has passed.  I seem to have gotten a hold on things.  Thank goodness!  Now I just need to quit procrastinating...and falling asleep on top of my book and get my reading done.  If only you could learn through osmosis.  I was reading my book the other day and the next thing I knew, it was almost two hours later. Oops!

My sleeping pattern seems to be seriously screwed up.  I was not feeling great yesterday afternoon so I decided I would lay down for an hour or so before getting back to work.  This was at 3:30pm.  When I opened my eyes and looked at the clock it said 9:30pm! ahhhh!  How did that happen!?! Thanks to my six hour nap, I was up all night.  Not happy, but I did get one of my assignments done at 2am. lol

Okay, that is all for now.  I really do need to get to my reading...if I can stay awake.  Wish me luck!  Have a good week all!

So...by any chance is someone holding my brain hostage?  It seems to be MIA.  If you see it, please tell it to come home.  Please and thank you!  After talking to some friends, it appears that brains have gone on strike.  Nooooooooo! lol

Anyway, guess who is driving again? That's right, me!  After two years I am back behind the wheel. Scared?  Even after two years I am a better driver than 3/4th of the lunatics on the road.  Breath easy, I am not over confident, just confident enough to be willing to get back into practice.  However, in the mean time I am being VERY careful.

My class is going well...which is what I am procrastinating from at the moment. Shhh...don't tell.  I have some reading I need to get done so I can take a quiz by Sunday and one more assignment that is also due on Sunday.  I have, however, completed more than half of the work for the week.

Well, that's it for now.  I really do need to get to work.  Have a good weekend all!

Thanks to everyone who donated and or walked with us yesterday. It was a HUGE success! I am completely in awe of how awesome everyone has been. Thank you everybody for your support. You were awesome!

Well, I have survived my first two weeks of classes. I was a little rusty at first, but it appears I have not completely lost my touch. Thank goodness! My class is both interesting and terrifying at the same time (tehe). It is called society and the environment. It is about how people are are affecting the planet and our use of resources. Intellectually I already knew most of this stuff, but reading about it can be a bit hard to take and discouraging sometimes. I guess I just need to try and keep in mind that although we are doing things that hurt the planet, we are also doing this to counteract some of the affects.
Well, my dad is on vacation this week, FINALLY! We have a bit of an odd week ahead of us.  Today my parents and I went to see Fiddler on the Roof. It was actually quite good. Much better than the movie! Tomorrow we are having the house painted. On Thursday thru Sunday my parents have four day passes to Country Thunder. I am a little but jealous, but I am most excited for them. It should be a fun few days for them. It is supposed to cool off a little bit next weekend too, so that will be nice.

Well, I guess that is about it for now.  I have an assignment that I need to get done. I hope you all have a good week!

Lots of Love,
Liz

Happy Weekend!

Be Fearless!
Good Morning All!

It is FINALLY the weekend and I have survived my first week of class.  I admit, I am a little rusty, but I do not appear to have completely lost my touch.  Thank goodness!  Well, I officially registered for the fall semester.  I was able to get a seat in MTE 180 (math for teachers) at ASU. Yeah!  I hated that I had to drop that class.  I had it and loved it and my teacher.  I am happy to have another go at it with the same teacher.  I also signed up for a science course at MCC.  After poking around, I stumbled across a biology lecture and lab that is over the internet, my specialty.  One of the teachers got pretty good reviews.  Wish me luck!

Well, as many of you know, I have had my share of computer problems in the last year.  Computers have a tendency to make me...grrrr! Arrrr! Ugh! Enough said.  Every time we have attempted to fix my computer we have had to reinstall my files onto my computer (music, pics, documents, excreta).  However, instead of only having one music folder as I should, I have somehow ended up with four!  So, over the course of the past two weeks I have been moving files around on my computer to make one music folder.  I was just about done...of course, nothing can be simple.  A found another music folder in my picture folder of all places (go figure!), however, when I deleted what I believed was yet another copy of my music library, I in fact deleted my entire music library. Groan!  A little warning would have been nice! Of course, my library is to big to be put in my recycling bin so it was permanently deleted.  My mom found some software that recovers deleted files.  I am in the process of doing that now.  I am hoping and praying that it will get me my music back, or else I am going to have a very long road ahead of me to get my music back on my computer.  I guess I should have left well enough alone!  Keep your fingers crossed! :o(

Well, I guess that is about it for now.  The epilepsy walk is next Saturday.  I am overwhelmed with the support that everyone has shown us.  I cannot believe how much money we have raised.  The fact that whatever we raise will be matched by CVS is just the icing on the cake.  Thanks to everyone who has been involved!  If you are walking with us, please send us your t shirt size if you have not already done so.  Thanks!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Love you all!
Elizabeth

School and the walk

You guys are AWESOME! Thanks
for everything!
Good morning all!

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.  It is now Sunday.  My classes begin on tomorrow.  I admit I am a little nervous, but this is what I want.  I was poking around looking for classes to take in the fall and found out MCC offers a biology lab and lecture via internet. It sounds…intriguing.  It would make life easier if I did not have to be at to different schools five days a week. If I take it at school, I will basically have to take the lab on one of the days I am already there.  That means I would be there for about four and a half hours.  I have done well with internet classes in the past, so I am hoping I can take biology that way.

I was looking into what classes are offered at ASU this fall. I have three possibilities of classes I could take. I am hoping to take MTE 180 (math for teachers). I started this class my last semester at ASU and I loved it and my teacher. She is teaching two classes in the fall one is on Tuesday, Thursday at noon and the other is MWF 4:30. I am really hoping to get into the noon class, but there are only six seats open. My enrollment date does not open until Wednesday. I guess I will just keep my fingers crossed.

Did you visit the Team Page recently? We have passed our initial fund-raising goal of $750! We have raised over one thousand dollars!!!  We are in awe of the wonderful response we have received! Thank you all!

Asking for money has never been one of my strengths, so this is amazing! We could stop and be satisfied...but we just received some wonderful news.

CVS has offered to match any funds Team ...Leaping LIZards raises!!!! That means whatever we raise, the Epilepsy foundation will received double that! This definitely has added the icing on the cake. So, please, share the team site with your friends and family! As I am reminded often by the Epilepsy Foundation, we are not asking for the money for us, but for the thousands of people in Arizona that live with Epilepsy.

Any questions, please feel free to call or email...I will be happy to find out the answer.

She's moving forward

Good day all!

Well, I am continuing to move forward with my plans of returning to school. I am officially register at MCC. I am going to be taking two online classes to get my feet wet. They begin on Monday.
I went to ASU yesterday to see my adviser. I don't know how I got lucky enough to meet with him the first time, but I will never go to someone else. No matter why I go or how stressed I am, he has a way of making everything seem okay. Yesterday was no exception. We talked about where I have completed, what was left, and what my plans are.

Although I am itching to get started, I am going to start out slow. After being out of school for almost two years I do not want to kill myself. I still have my two science classes that I need to get out of the way. They have been hanging over my head since I began school in 2007. I actually attempted biology my last semester at school. However, the big lecture hall is not a good setting for me. Solution- I am going to be taking my two science courses at MCC and transfer the credits.

I am also planning on taking one class at ASU. I am thinking MTE 180 (math for teachers). I was also in this class my last semester at ASU, but had to drop it when things hit the fan. I loved this class and my professor. She is teaching two classes next semester. I am hoping to get into one of them.
Although I admit to being a little apprehensive about returning to school, more than anything, I am ready for this. Bring it on!!!

Epilepsy Walk

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, when Elizabeth was sixteen she got the shock of a lifetime. What should have been a fun weekend away marked the beginning of her journey. We went to Las Vegas to visit family who was fleeing from hurricane Katrina. Everything seemed to be fine. However, when we were all walking to dinner Elizabeth started feeling “funny.” We all thought it was because we had not eaten. Liz never did eat anything that night. When we all sat down to dinner she had a grand mal seizure. The doctors at the hospital all said it was probably a one time thing, but to go to our doctor when we got home. After going to a neurologist and having tests done it was decided that this was not a one time occurrence. Elizabeth was diagnosed with Epilepsy.

Epilepsy is a medical condition that produces seizures affecting a variety of mental and physical functions. It’s also called a seizure disorder. When a person has two or more unprovoked seizures, they are considered to have epilepsy.

Seizures can last from a few seconds to a few minutes. They can have many symptoms, from convulsions and loss of consciousness to some that are not always recognized as seizures by the person experiencing them or by health care professionals: blank staring, lip smacking, or jerking movements of arms and legs. There are many different types of seizures. The kind of seizure a person has depends on which part and how much of the brain is affected by the electrical disturbance that produces seizures.

I wish I could tell you that there was a cure. There's not. Because epilepsy is a brain issue, it is unique to every individual that has it. Some can manage with drugs, some grow out of it and some will deal with it every day of their lives.

This is not the world I want people with epilepsy to live in. I want a cure. I want to fix it. But I can't, so I'm left with the next best thing. I want everyone to be knowledgeable and compassionate. To understand what to do if someone I know has a seizure.

I cannot do that alone. The Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona has the programs to help accomplish these things. They just don't have the funding, this, I can fix.

Please join me for the 2011 Phoenix Epilepsy Walk and walk with my team, Leaping ‘Liz’zards. The walk is Saturday, April 2nd at Steele Indian School Park 300 E. Indian School Rd. Check in is from 8-9:30am. The walk begins at 9:30. To walk with us, or sign up to join our team and fundraise yourself, follow the link below:

As much as I want you to join us, I really want you to open your wallet more. If you cannot make it, please think about sponsoring one of our Team Members! I'm hoping everyone I know can give at least $10. And I do mean everyone. Certainly feel free to donate more than that - but I'm hopeful that you can at least give up a latte for a day and help.

I am incredibly grateful for your help and hope to see you on the 2nd! If you are joining us for the walk, please let either Liz or Susan Huber know what T shirt size you would like.

All our best,
The Huber Family

Joined the masses

Good Morning all!

I guess I have joined the masses of bloggers.  I guess we will see how this goes.

As some of you may know, I have been trying to figure out what it is I want to do with my life.  I miss feeling like I am working towards something, anything.  I am tired of spinning my wheels going nowhere and accomplishing nothing. After thinking about it for several months, I realized what it is that I want. I miss school. However, after taking almost two years off from ASU, I am a little apprehensive about the idea. I need to get my feet wet a little first. Solution- Mesa Community College offers late start classes that begin on the 21st of March and run through the end of May. I am officially registered and I even have my books. I am so ready for this! I finally feel like my life has some direction again.

This fall I need to return to ASU or else I will be forced to reapply (two year leave of absence). I have decided to take only one class of ASU and to try and get my two science courses out of the way at MCC. With things the way they are now, taking science at ASU would be near impossible for me. As my adviser said, "The world is your oyster!" lol

To everyone who is traveling this spring break, be safe and enjoy your time off! I know some of you have been suffering from spring-breakitis. hehe I hope the time off from school cures you! The semester is halfway over for many of you, but mine is just starting out. I am soooo EXITED!

Take care all!
